Just a 15-minute stroll from Shevchenko Park’s Green Theatre, the first and only open-air venue in Odessa, caffeine aficionados can indulge in one of the best examples of Ukraine’s booming coffee culture. Third wave coffee shops and awarded baristas have transformed the city into an artisanal heaven for bean enthusiasts. Sivak+Partners, an architectural and interior design studio based in Kiev and Odessa, may have ongoing projects in more than ten countries, but their belief that “good coffee is part of a good city” led them to create Daily Café: A 76 square metre microcosm that adapts to any coffee situation, on a day-to-day basis, creating a space “where good people can enjoy good coffee”. After setting up a small, short-lived pop-up coffee bar on the spot, Daily café opened its doors as a regular establishment in early 2019, eager to cater to patrons that come here to have a nice chat, work in an inspiring environment or cozy up with a good book and a hot cup in hand.

Designed to resemble movie stills, every corner in this café aims at creating the feeling that we are all part of an arthouse production, meeting, passing through each other's lives, interacting like characters in a perfectly choreographed scenario, even for a brief moment in time. In fact, the Daily is divided into two very different settings, both featuring a bold and naturalistic design. Entering the café, one is met with a big hall featuring a long counter, a sitting area with a lovely hanging garden over it, and plenty of natural light coming in from the large glass façade looking out on the street.
This can easily be dubbed as the working area of the café since its small tables make for ideal, one-on-one meetings, when brief brainstorming sessions over good coffee are the call of the day, while the tall stools next to the window support coffee breaks on the run.Serving much more than good blends, this part of the Daily also doubles as a creative hub where social events like “Breakfast with an interesting person” take place every two weeks, hosting famous guests giving inspiring talks and interacting with the people and place.

Leaving the feel of an urban space behind, the second area of the coffee shop looks like a spot that typical New Yorkers like Patti Smith would probably inhabit daily. With dimmable wall lights, bookcases with lowered shelves, a custom-made velvet sofa for snuggling up with a good book or next to each other, this is a much more intimate space.
Here, the tiles laid on the main hall give way to thick wooden floors, and half-closed window blinds create a setting where privacy is king. The raw cement textured walls run throughout the whole project, with colours varying from terracotta to burgundy creating a rustic feel, interrupted by spells of contemporary design, like the custom-made curved mirrors and perforated wooden separates. A curation of interesting furniture scouted out carefully adds to the cool, cozy and minimalistic Daily café that serves so much more than good coffee.
