The Urban Ease of Gowanus Inn & Yard in Brooklyn, NY

　　The Gowanus Inn & Yard, which is located in Brooklyn's south district of Gowanus, can be described as "so New York." Designed by the branding and architecture design practice, Savvy Studio, and recently completed, the project is quintessential to the city thanks to the revitalized, industrial simplicity that reigns supreme throughout the space which translates into no detail having been overlooked and no element being superfluous.
　　Nothing is given away to visitors upon entry, as the dark cement walls, tiled floors and no-fuss signage are simple yet informative. The hotel's large lobby and sunken common room with whitewashed brick walls, red brick floors and warehouse-special metal framed windows near the ceiling, create an effective foil for the comfortable mix and match of furnishings. The primary colors or neutral tones of these have a midcentury feel and are organized like "clusters" on large colorful carpets throughout the large room, creating individualized seating spaces that both create privacy as well as cohesion. Lots of sunlight streaming in and the green, potted plants bring natural touches to the indoor urban setup.

　　More nature is to be found in the calming, outdoor terrace restaurant upstairs as well as in the sunken eating area beside it. The latter, surrounded by abundant greenery hanging over the whitewashed brick walls, green shrubs and potted citrus trees brings a sense of privacy - one can imagine it would be the ideal location for an intimate party of best friends. Here, an array of picnic-style slated wood tables are surrounded by colorful chairs and stools in "sun faded" tones bringing an almost country ease to the city.
