  Wanås Restaurant Hotel bridges the peaceful ambiance of a refurbished, 18th century building with that of contemporary art and sustainability, in a setting that is so utterly charming it's liable to cast a spell over its visitors. Located in the south of Sweden, just an hour and a half away from Copenhagen, the hotel is on the grounds of an estate that was the site of many mighty battles in the 16th and 17th centuries. But since 1987, these same grounds host the renowned sculpture park of the Wanås Foundation, where and the most aggressive behavior one might now encounter is that of a farmer picking some ripe, organic vegetables in the garden.
  Since it opened its doors in May of 2017, the boutique hotel's guests are welcomed to indulge their senses in a cozy, minimalist space made up of large, crackling fireplaces and contemporary Nordic design. Each of the eleven rooms has been decorated with local materials - such as oak floors and timber salvaged from the medieval estate - midcentury furnishings and contemporary art on the walls, all of which invite the creation of moments boasting relaxation and warmth.

  Meanwhile, the hotel's "Nordic farm-to-table" restaurant is located in the adjacent converted 18th century barn and deliciously reflects the beech and oak forests that surround it; both in the ingredients that inspire its seasonal, organic menu as well as in its décor. Year round everything is very family-style here - from the open kitchen that allows dinners to be a part of proceedings, to the communal tables surrounding the large fireplace in the winter.
  In turn,the tables spill out onto the terrace and lawn overlooking the sculpture park's Art Gallery in the summer - see if you can spot art from the likes of Ann Hamilton, Hannelie Coetzee, Yoko Ono or Robert Wilson as you enjoy your lunch! The restaurant’s large lantern lamps hanging from the wood beamed ceiling and exposed brick or stone walls further enhance this sense of authenticity meets innovation, which seem to be the telling calling card of Wanås.
