Over the last few years Kazimierz, the long neglected, former Jewish Quarter off Krakow’s old town, has emerged as a bustling, bohemian neighbourhood where the city’s hipster crowd intermingles with a burgeoning community of local artists. Amidst a rich historic urban fabric of 16th century synagogues, Gothic cathedrals and Baroque churches, trendy new restaurants and hip boutiques thrive alongside artists’ studios and tucked away art galleries. Perfectly in tune with the area’s unique ambience and creative energy, PURO Hotels’ new venture, PURO Kraków Kazimierz, has recently opened its doors offering locals and guests alike a hospitality experience that draws from both Kazimierz’s deep-rooted bohemian sensibility and the brand’s forward-looking hospitality and passion for contemporary art and design.
Although PURO’s largest project to date with 228 rooms and suites, Polish practice ASW Architects’ stripped-back brickwork building feels more like a boutique hotel courtesy of London-based Conran and Partners’ interior design that unfolds as a series of elegantly curated experiences. This sense is further enhanced by a wide selection of artworks by local and international artists throughout the hotel, including guest rooms where each one has been treated to its own individual curation of modern visual art.

The hotel’s expansive communal areas on the ground floor, which include the lobby and lounge as well as two independent eateries and several outdoor spaces, unfold as a series of unique spaces that smoothly flow into each other encouraging exploration, while private pockets of space promote intimacy. From the modernist sunken lounge centred on a sleek suspended fireplace, to the minimalist atrium featuring a cloud of suspended light points, the hotel offers guests a diverse selection of experiencesthat are nevertheless united by Conran and Partners’ underlying design concept of “bohemian modern”, a reference to both Kazimierz rich history, including its industrial heritage, and the brand’s contemporary ethos.
PURO has a history of collaborating with local talents, a fact that becomes apparent the moment guests step inside: as they check
