Taking over an abandoned bakery in Garbatella, a century-old, working class neighbourhood now turned Rome’s trendiest new postcode, Tre de tutto is a new café-bar and restaurant that whimsically celebrates the area’s storied history and unpolished authenticity with stylish minimalism. Rome-based architecture and design practice STUDIOTAMAT breathed new life into the run-down property by juxtaposing the building’s battered building fabric with a Pop Art aesthetic of vibrant colours and playful geometries. Part local bar, part upscale trattoria, the venue embodies both the neighbourhood’s humble past and dynamic present.
Modelled on the English Garden City, a type of planned residential community popular in the early 20th century, Garbatella was built in the 1920s for working-class families due to its proximity to the Ostiense industrial area. Pre-war, low-rise apartment buildings in the Baroccheto style (an amalgamation of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architecture) huddle around communal courtyards and garden spaces.Intermixed with high-rise social housing and mixed-use buildings, the area’s richly layered character oozes cinematic charm as documented by Nanni Moretti in his 1993 film “Caro Diario” which sees him riding through the neighbourhood on his Vespa. Having lately given way to a cultural renaissance with a new wave of hip galleries, bars and eateries like Tre de tutto, the revamped venue pays homage to Garbatella’s uniqueness both implicitly through STUDIOTAMAT’s past-meets-present interior design, and explicitly with a neon sign reading "How beautiful Garbatella is!" welcoming patrons as they step inside.

Occupying the ground and basement levels of a corner building, Tre de tutto, which translates as three of everything, takes its name from the three arches that punctuate its façade. On the ground floor, the triangular floorplan is conveniently separated by a central cruciform pillar into a lounge, which is dedicated to vinyl records, a sitting area reserved for breakfasts and aperitifs, and a bar area dominated by an L-shaped counter, while the basement houses the dining area and kitchen.
On the ground floor, the designers have left the original walls as they found them - peeling plaster, drilled holes, scribbled messages and all - adding only a band of deep blue Majolic 试读已结束,请付费阅读全文。 本文只能试读50%,付费后可阅读全文。 |
